Alberta Roads

For all those people looking to travel on the ALberta roads, Alberta Motor Association (AMA) had added these little towers along the major highways with weather station and cameras. I think the images are updated every half hour or so. I just think technology is freakin' neat.

Also I like this one which is the major highway between Edmonton and Calgary.

I thought we were moving to spring but yesterday we got 6" of snow and then a little more to boot last night. Great!

Re: Look at Weather Where You're At...

When Alberta was part of my Job Territory, I used to travel Highway 2 between Calgary and Edmonton every 3 to 4 weeks all year round. The camera shot of the H'way at Bowden brings back a scary memory....I was heading north in my car (at the usual 120 kph) when I noticed the cars in front of me starting to weave from side to side. I eased off the throttle just as the car in front of me started to do a counter-clockwise 360 towards the median and I realized I was on black ice. I quickly put the shifter into neutral and let go of the steering wheel, just keeping the tips of 2 fingers on it and not touching the brake at all. I managed to keep on the road (every car in front of me went off the road so I had a clear road) and come to a safe stop. I had some road flares in the car so quickly threw a few out onto the highway to warn oncoming drivers...I've never seen such a mess. Fortunately, nobody was injured and the RCMP appeared out of nowhere (they have that magical ability to do so on H'way 2 ) so I was able to get on my way again.
I think that's the last time my heart almost pounded through my chest.
Riding a bike on those roads in the winter would be suicide.
