Steering Head Bearing Replacement 2007

My Dealers says the book shows 3.5 hrs labour to replace the steering head bearings. Does this sound correct?

I have only 1000km and have a little play it the steering head. Small clunk when I push pull on the front forks. I have not tried tightening anything yet, dont have the proper tools not even sure what I need.

No warranty in Canada on my bike as I got it in the USA. Was just thinking I would replace with the All Balls Bearings and seal kit.

What's the possibility to ride here to the U.S. for warranty work? Other than that your options are to attempt to tighten to spec, do the work yourself or have the the local dealer do it.

Good luck.

I may just ride down to the USA and get it looked at on Warranty, water pump leaks as well. Not good with only 1000km on the bike. About a 4hr ride for me

Re: Steering Head Bearing Replacement 2007

I just had my steering head seen tom been rattling since i got it.
As per the mechy, the factory recommends, tightening then turning back half a touch. According to him, once everything settles in, it is then too loose.
tightened it just a little, put back again and everything felt much better.
He checked the bearings to, which were ok, and that after riding it for a year with the rattle.
Have it checked out, it shouldn't be worn out by now (07), perhaps just tightened and repacked. 3.5 hours is a long time, i had several quotes of an hour.

I still don;t understand how Yamaha won't warranty the bike that was bought in the US even if you live in Canada. Both dealerships submit their claims to Yamaha international regardless.
