Rear Shock alternatives?

Hey everyone, am in the process of giving my 06 FZ6 front suspension a big facelift with racetech springs, and emulators, and when i have finished this, i am going to turn my attention to the rear shock.

Have a a bit of a look on the net, and there are a few alternatives.

Just wanting to get some idea's from other FZ6 riders, as to what they have replaced their rear shock with, and what the results have been, or what is on everyone's wishlist in regards to rear shocks.

Am looking for relative ease of installtion, and possibly, some adjustability, and obviously better performance than OEM.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Re: Rear Shock alternatives?

Hey Wolfman - The rear shock is a difficult one to tweak. Here's a couple of links to get started with.

http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/how-t...onversion.html

http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/fz6-m...k-install.html (R1 Shock Install)

Here's a source for a spring replacement: Hyper Pro USA - World Class Suspension Technology

I think the new spring will help a great deal however I'm not sure what you do about the damping? Perhaps the shock can be rebuilt with a heavier oil?

Thanks for those links. Was guessing it was a relatively tricky mod, as there is not much written about it in this forum...

I have been looking at the Hyper Pro page, Have also found some bitubo shock's at Caprimoto that fit too. Has anyone got one of these???

Carpimoto

There's also the Uber expensive, but highly desirable Ohlins. Here is the link to what OHLINS have...has anyone got one of these???

Recommendation list

Half the fun is looking!

Yup that is the Ohlins I have, the YA 723, 46HRC, hardracing.com has them for $710 shipped to your door. Retail is $874, not shipped.

After the R1 disaster the Ohlins was reasonable, especially when I had put a good 5 hours in to the project and had it not work at all.

Re: Rear Shock alternatives?

I've got the HRC and love it. You could get the regular Ohlins shock (pre-load & compression) for a decent price. If I were you, living in Australia and all, I'd figure out what forums all the FZ6 Cup guys hang out on and check the classified section over there. Shouldn't be too hard to find a used one. You can also check eBay for Wilbers, Penske, etc.

Oh by the way, once you get the right shock in the condition you want, it won't take very long to install at all.

Well thanks to Hellgate, i just ordered an Ohlins YA403 / 46ER for my 06 fz from Hard Racing..., Is $750 cheaper for me to buy it from America, than it is to buy it in Australia. This way i get a new shock, and it comes set up!

3 cheers for Hellgate for putting me onto a great deal!

Oh, and re the place where the FZ6 cup boys hang...have been looking for a while now, it does not seem to exist! Have had similar thoughts re parts from these guys, especially rear sets, etc.

Love this forum!

Well congrats you're gonna love it.

How much did they charge you for shipping? The shock you got is an emulsion type and adjustable for rebound only, right? My remote res HRC was $690 shipped from Hardracing (US to US).

There was a guy on SBN that raced an FZ6 in Australia, and won a lot. oso2k bought his Ohlins HRC from the guy ($500 IIRC). Perhaps he knows and oso2k could put you in contact with him....

Yep, that's the one, adjustable for rebound only, am still sure it will be streets ahead of the OEM shock.

Thanks for the tip re oso2, will PM him, and see where it gets me! Oh and they charged me $89 for shipping ($650 insurance, 7-10 days delivery).
