How to warm up tyres

How do you warm up your tyres - on the street and on the track? BTW yesterday I found an article on the Internet with some tests which prove there's no point in making twisties in order to better/faster warm up your tires.

Re: How to warm up tyres

I swerve left and right in my lane to make a large contact area on the tires, sort of slalom down the street. I ride conservatively for a while before making any sharp turns.

Re: How to warm up tyres

I'm not sure but I sure could have used it yesterday. I hit a 180 degree freeway on-ramp at about 30 mph within 1/4 mile of my house yesterday morning and the rear tire started slipping out from under me. Luckily I maintained constant throttle application and put my foot down to keep the bike from going down.

Maybe I should buy some of those tire warmers you see trackside for use before my morning commute!

Re: How to warm up tyres

almost everyone on the track uses tire warmers due to the type of tire that they have. A street tire will heat up on it's own after a couple minutes of riding and weaving has no measurable effect on that, other than it gives you a feel for how the tires are gripping that day.

Re: How to warm up tyres

The spot I park my bike is very sandy, so I weave a few times in the street to scrub the tires off. By the time I can go above 30 mph, the bike is completely warmed up as well as the tires.

Re: How to warm up tyres

yes it is the deformation of the tire from flat to round that warms them.
I weave/sicssor for fun on my bike, not to get them warm. It also scrubs off the old rubber and puts a fresh new layer down on the road surface.

Re: How to warm up tyres

Street tires will warm up fast so long as it's not brick outside. Tire pressure will impact tire temp. as well, from what I understand.

Not to thread hijack but it's related...

How long would you say it takes for the stock tires to warm up under normal city riding conditions?
