Re: paint question

I was going to paint mine and decided against it for i was afraid it would be riddled with stone chips after a few hundred miles, i have decided to take the bike down and have the forks wrapped in vinyl. You may have seen the cars and trucks driving around that look like a rolling billboard. They call that wrapping, its a type of vinyl shrink wrap. i have a friend that works at a sign depot that does this, and said all i had to do was buy the material (fairly cheap i believe) and he will do the work for free. should be done middle next week. i will post pics and let you know what i think.

Re: paint question

The paint I used for all mods on my bike was 'Krylon'. All different colors and uses. Use the Krylon grey primer for metal and then use the color you want for metal. I say for metal because they make many diff. kinds for diff. applications. For my windshield and exhuast I used the 'plastic' type which you do not have to prime and their paints are very hard after 7 days and they gaurantee against chips and peeling if used under the right circumstances. I've put on over 3500 kms since I've done my painting and not one chip anywhere. The nice thing is you can recoat during the process after waiting for only one minute dry time. Total dry time is 10 mins as stated on the can and can handle after 1 hour. That is awesome dry times, even after 10 mins it is not tacky to the touch. I had my bike completely done and back together in 1 day and was riding the next day. It comes in standard size aerosol cans and cost me (depending on the type) between $4.50 - 6.00 a can. Canadian Dollars. I purchased from Walmart. Hope this helps.

Re: paint question

This is what I had done, and it worked awesome (paint is from Autozone... just sanded the forks a little bit before the primer...):

Re: paint question

These spray cans can get anywhere! If you take your time and spray from the side, you can get paint between the wheels and forks without too much trouble... just make sure you spray lightly to avoid spills, and give 3-5min between coats... 3-4 coats were good enough...

Very simple and relatively quick mod... just make sure you have a torque wrench to bolt the brake calipers back on at the proper torque value.
