New FZ6 Owner/Motorcyclist w/Questions

Alright, I'm pretty new to being on a bike altogether and chose the FZ6 because it was shown to me as a good bike for a beginner. I really enjoy the bike and am happy with my purchase. I have already begun to look at modifying the bike and I need help. I would like to buy an FE kit but want to make sure I stay legal and keep my license plate lit up. Is there a good setup that either has a good light with it or allows for the factory light to be used? I would also like to make the exhaust sound a little better but I am not willing to spend 1G nor am I willing to sacrifice the good looks of the factory exhaust. I think what I am after is called a slip-on? Thanks in advance.

Re: New FZ6 Owner/Motorcyclist w/Questions

Hey Dhoyle, welcome! You've picked a great bike.

First, this is by no means a beginner's bike. You've got about 90 hp in a 410 lbs bike. A beginner bike is like a Rebel 250, maybe a Ninja 250, or Ninja 500. The FZ will smoke those bikes and many larger ones. The cool thing is you can do everything from touring to track days on the FZ.

Okay for mods you are in the correct area of the forum! Use the search feature and you'll find tons of ideas and information.

For an FE kit there a millions to choose from, well maybe a dozen. I have the Rizoma and like it. It has an LED light for the license plate. I'm sure other kits have a light too.

For your exhaust most people here have the Scorpion or the Two Brothers. There is a group buy for the TB, check it out. As far as cost you'd be hard press to drop a K USD on an exhaust for the FZ. There are 2 million exhausts, ok maybe 20, it really depends on what you like.

Again welcome and post a lot.

Congrats on the bike. I just purchased my FZ6 also and am a new rider. I find the bike very easy to ride especially how the power band is set up. The low torque in the lower RPM's makes it easy to ride around town and get use to it.

Welcome to the forum, from all the way down under, i've said it before, watch out for "mod Fever", if you hang around here enough, you will end doing, or wanting to do lots of nice things to your bike.

Good luck with your new steed, gear up & stay upright.

For a fender eliminator, I have been seriously considering this one:

R&G Tail Tidy

I like that the plate does not seem to be on a severe angle, and it's not shoved very far toward the front of the bike. I checked, and they will ship to the US. Unfortunately, at current exchange rates, with shipping it will be about $120.00.

Are you in the Fairfield, Ohio that's north of Cincinnati, south of Hamilton? Did you buy your bike at Shipps?

I have one of the R&G tail tidy's, very good kit, easy to install, and looks, feels OEM.

Thanks and yes, I did buy at Shipps. Did a lot of shopping around and they had what I wanted and are only about 4 miles from my home.
