More mods....

Got BDs dual headlight harness in the mail today. This thing is QUALITY. No way you'd guess it's not stock.

Just got it done. Works great! Of course I forgot to adjust my badly loose throttle cable when I had the airbox off (out of adjustment room at the handlebar) AND I discovered a badly stripped bolt sitting loose that's supposed to hold on the right side of the battery cover I'll have to try the good bolt and see what happens - hopefully only the threads on the bolt are stripped.

Now I'm off to put on my new heated grips....

A tip re heated grips, if they are the sealed, hardwired units, like Oxford Hot Grips, dont super glue them to the bars as they instruct, they are tight enough with glue, and if you glue them, you will have lots of pain getting them off, if you need to for any reason, and if you have to cut them to get them off they will be useless.

My 2 cents.

Re: More mods....

Got the stock grips off no problem. Little WD-40 and a screwdriver and they came right off. Cleaned up the bars with a bit of alcohol to get the gunk off.

I think I will put just a tiny bit of glue in one spot on the new ones. They do move around a bit on my bars (not much at all, but a bit). If I don't glue them a bit I think they could slip when the grips get hot or when I'm on a long ride. I wouldn't want to suddenly discover my brake lever/clutch won't go in enough because it's hitting the cord of a grip that slipped.

My biggest hassle was the battery terminals. Spent FOREVER trying to get them to bolt back tight (especially the damn ground - where is the main ground anyway?) If I add anything else I'll have to get an electrical box (now I've got my battery tender and grips hooked to the battery). I still have the issue of the bad/loose cover bolt to sort out tomorrow.

When I tested the grips out I wasn't sure they were working (no light, no heat). Then I remembered that the 'smart' control requires the battery to be something over 13V before they come on (above idle). Checked by battery with a voltmeter and sure enough -a bit low. After firing up the bike and holding the engine at around 5000 rpm for 30 seconds the grips kicked on and remained on. WOW are they hot!!!

I still have a bit of a mess with the grip cables since I have risers/barbacks. Rather than tucking neatly under the front they stick out since the cords aren't long enough to hide with the bars being further away. Oh well. Function over form I guess.
