CAT removal

Decided to remove the Cat, couldn’t see the point of installing my Brothers with a potato in the mid pipe.

Cut the cat section out on either side of the welds and tig welded in a new section of stainless pipe.

Just a word of caution if you intend doing this mod, ensure you mark-up and realign the bottom clamp with the top hanger as per the OEM pipe. “you’ll notice the white line on the Cat.

Honed the inside welds to maintain a smooth airflow through the mid pipe.

Cost; free, picked up a short piece of off cut pipe at the local exhaust shop

Re: CAT removal

So what do you think of the ridability? What does the butt-dyno say?

You do know that there are two additional CATs in the header?

The Brothers are still on the way from the States; I’m expecting them to land in Africa anytime now so I haven’t ridden the bike yet.

I’ll need to look for the two cats in the header and extract

They are where just before the collector, you'll see the bulges in the header pipes.

Re: CAT removal

nice job on the mod, it looks almost perfect, Looks like we will be buying a house in the next month or so which means that over the winter i can take my bike apart and do some custom mods with my new Garage (just have to find a house that we like with a garage now...)

Thanks, hope you find a suitable house soon, I've got a triple garage (6m x 9m) and there isn't enough place for the toys.

Cheers

Re: CAT removal

What alloy did you use for filler material? Do you know what alloy the exhaust is? I'm going to be doing this myself soon!

Re: CAT removal

Did you have to loosen the headers to get the CAT pipe out? The finished job looks factory!

Re: CAT removal

Looks like nice work. I've heard the pre-cats don't really do a whole lot - may be easier to skip it.
