48 teeth on the back

About a month ago I put a 15 on the front. Tonight I put 48 on the back. It is quick! I wish I would have run a quarter mile before I changed any thing and then after each change, so i could tell how much actual change there was. I didn't ride much tonight because I didn't have time. It feels quicker but also smoother, it feels a little like a turbo charger ,fast and smooth at the same time. I have a speedo healer on the way. I am going to ride at 8000 rpm in 6th gear with out the speedo healer. Then i am going to put it on and see how fast I am going at 8000 rpm. If any one else desides to switch out their gears, run a quarter mile first then after the change to see how much diff. there is.

Re: 48 teeth on the back

Well i put the speedo healer on. As far as I can tell at 50 and 60 mph , my speedometer was registering 9 mph faster than it is now at the same RPM

Excellent! Here's a great chart to see what the ratio amounts to with each change.

Was it hard to install the front or rear sprocket?

Front sprocket change out is pretty simple if you have the necessary tools (torque wrench, 32mm socket, etc...) and it takes only about 15-20 min. Most of that time is spent adjusting the chain.

I have a 48t sprocket to put on also but haven't gotten to that yet, the install for this is a little more involved. Formula (edit) did you change over to a 520 chain also? I read this was necessary for a -1/+2 gearing change.

It isn't necessary. I didn't change.

I didn't think i was ever going to get the front sprocket nut broken loose. Other than that it isn't complicated. You may know this I didn't at first so im going to tell you. The chain on the stock fz6 (at least my year and I think all of them) is a 530. There are conversion sprockets, chains and kits to convert to 520. If you buy a sprocket just make sure you buy sprockets for a 530 chain, unless you want to convert to 520 . If you do you will have to get both sprockets and the chain at the same time. I don't know of any reason to convert to 520 and the chains aren't cheap, so I just bought the 530 sprockets and kept my chain.

I have read on this site that some FZ6's have a 30 MM nut holding on the front sprocket. My is 32MM but I would check that just in case.
