High beam HID causing power loss?
Hey guys I installed a set of H4(low modified to fit) HID's. The low works and looks great, but when I turn the high on while the bike is in motion I noticed that the bike losses power for a few seconds and then operates like normal. In one case the engine did shut off completely.
Any suggestions? I also seem to have a reoccurring error 19 if that helps with suggestions. its an 04. Thanks! |

The design of HIDs does draw more current during start up, then the current drawn decreases drastically as they warm up. Perhaps your ballast is pulling too much current.

They are wired for power and ground from the original connectors. I hardwired them directly to the stock harness. Both ballasts are 35 watt, I would not think the influx current to the ballast is high enough for a long enough period of time to cause issues. That is why I think it might be related to my error 19 code. Which is related to the battery I believe. |

Re: High beam HID causing power loss?
Check your grounds. bad grounding causes lots of power to be pulled and turned into heat.

My HID's are wired as follows: 1. the relay is wired to the original headlight harness, which doesn't draw that much current 2. the ballasts are actually directly wired to the battery for both positive and ground This setup ensures that the ballasts get all the juice they need, but that they also are not actively drawing current unless the bike is on to power the relay.
