2006 Painted Windscreen

Thanks to the recent posts by sideshow_downs and SergeantG1, I finally decided to paint the windscreen on my bike. Theirs looked so good, I just had to try it! My only concern was that my bike is an '06 model, therefore the screen is substantially larger. But I took the plunge anyway. The outcome? It looks fantastic!!!

This mod was actually more fun that I thought it would be. After removing the screen and cleaning it with water/dish soap and a cotton cloth, I took quite a bit of time masking it. This took longer than I expected, but to me it was worth the effort. I then proceeded to apply multiple coats on the inside of the screen, with about 30-45 seconds between each coat. Once it cured for about 30-40 minutes (the instructions said 15 minutes), I then removed the masking and mounted the screen to my bike. Needless to say, I'm extremely please with the outcome.

Fz6Steph, I hope this answers your question about the older models.

Re: 2006 Painted Windscreen

Wow! looks great! Thanx, this is now on my list! Just wondering if you noticed....is there a sharp enough edge at where the center "bubble" starts that I could tape it off, put silver on the outer "bubbles" and black in the center? ( Do you know how hard that is to explain?!?) If you didn't notice, no big deal, I can go out and look at mine in the morning.

Re: 2006 Painted Windscreen

After reading my last post, I'm still not sure I worded it well enough to get my point across.
What I want it for the screen to look more like the newer models, the smaller black screen. I thought if I painted the outer edges silver it may have the same effect.
Jeez am I ever having trouble getting my thought outta my head and onto the freakin screen.

That looks great MisterX.
My mate just donated a "smoke screen" for my Silver/Black '05 FZ6, when I fit that, I might do the same thing with my clear screen.. Sorta have a back-up for if anything happens to the new screen.

Cheers mate.

Don't worry Steph, I understand what you mean, so I'm assuming everyone else does too. Sounds like a good idea, might have a play around with something along those lines when I do mine too. I'm gunna have a play with one of X's photos and see what it looks like.

Post a pic if you do play around with Mr. X's pic I'm not talented enough to do that, but would love to see what you come up with!

No worries. I understood what you were saying just fine.

Overall, there isn't a sharp edge on the curve. Just a rolling one. At least that's the way it is on mine. However, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to paint the center section black, and then the outer edges silver like you mentioned. If you do decide to do that, do paint the black part first, and then the silver. If while painting the silver, and if it bled over onto the black, it shouldn't show from the front. I hope that you do decide to do this. I'd love to see the final product.

Ok, well, I'm definately no expert at this stuff. This is just a quick muck-around in M$ Paint, no silver so had to use grey...lol

Would look really different to every other FZ out there though.

Thanks for doing that, I'm got the visual and can't wait to get the paint! I think I will carry the black all the way down the point though.

It will probably be Thursday before I get the paint, but I will definitely post some pictures of it.
Thanks again for letting me know about the edge so I didn't have to run outside in the rain lol
