Newbie on a 2006 FZ6
Hi guys...got suckered (read - liked it enough to buy it) into a 2006 FZ6 last night in red. Went in planning to look around before going to the new rider night at the dealer on Thursday, wound up really liking the feel of the FZ6, but unfortunately no test rides. I actually hadn't planned on buying a bike until after I took the basic rider course as I don't have my permit either, but didn't want to lose the chance. SO, will get the permit Saturday hopefully so I can start tooling around the neighborhood. As it was the most comfortable out of the 10 to 15 some odd bikes I tried out, I figured I'd pull the trigger on it. The only thing I'm not sure of is I've read it may not be the best starter bike, though a few people I've talked to say its fine, and I've read it gets a little punchy when you rev it high...any recommendations from the current owners on things to know?
Picture is here too, not the best as its from my phone at the dealer. |

aboard. A lot of people have used this as a beginner bike. Just make sure you take it easy. You won't be using the entire powerband since it's a new bike and has to be broken in...keep it away from high revs (too often ). It's when you start to feel comfortable that you'll make a mistake. Take that course and good luck! Search the forum and read what you can! |

Congrats man! You'll love the FZ. As a beginner bike it can be tough to learn on. The clutch is short, and very touchy. Shifting from 1-2 can also cause some jerky-jerkys. Be careful and ride like everyone is trying to kill you, take it easy and keep 'er out of the 7k+ range for a while, ride everyday, be careful on hills (start slow). I started on a 250, and it kept me out of trouble until I was ready to move up. As long as you use your head and don't get too confident too fast you'll be fine.
Oh yeah, read "twist of the wrist," it'll help oyu understand some basic machine dynamics which really will help.

Re: Newbie on a 2006 FZ6
I read the same things and was nervous getting the FZ6 as a starting bike. However, I come from a dirtbike racing background, rode dirtbikes since I could walk, and the FZ6 is fine.
If you ever rode anything with two wheels, you'll be fine, just respect it. If you haven't ever rode any type of motorcycle before, then I really can't say. Streetbikes are heavier than dirtbikes, so be careful when coming to stop and don't rev or turn hard over paint lines, manhole covers, steel sheets over the road, etc..... |
