Yamaha R1 review, as a passenger....
If your wife rides as a passenger on your FZ6 and you absolutely hate it, then the Yamaha YZF R-1 is the right bike for you!!!
After 3 months of sportrider owning the R1, today was the first ride for me as a passenger. It was pretty uncomfortable.....as soon as I got on the bike and put my feet on the pegs, I got gnarly cramps in my thighs! The passenger seat sits extremely high and while cruising (with sportrider in his riding position and me kicking back enjoying the scenery) I felt like we had 2 feet of space between us, and the bottom of my helmet was flush with the top of his helmet.....it didn't even feel like we were on the same bike. Everytime he applied the brakes, I slid forward right into him and I had to use the tank to brace myself, and then re-position. Even when he shifted, I slid forward. This was all just local "cruising", no twisties, no sportriding. 5 minutes into the ride my feet were numb. It is definitely not 2up friendly and I'm glad we didn't go on the 100 mile ride that I was wanting to go on! ![]() This gives me more motivation to get my license and ride my own ride! So what made us decide to ride 2up ??? Well......no kids!!! and this (it's too good not to post, again)http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/117706-post31.html It's all Steph's fault!

Re: Yamaha R1 review, as a passenger....
Nice post J, just helps reinforce one of the key reasons for a lot of us buyiing an FZ6...we take pillions, and the bike caters for them very well...R1 is a "balls out" sportsbike, and passengers are definitely and after thought.
Still the FZ6 can make a mean little middleweight when ridden hard...but that's the beauty...you get a nice compromise with the FZ6, a little bit of both worlds...i have said it before, the FZ6 is the thinking mans sportsbike! Would still love an R1 though, awesome ride...all brawn, no fat!

I can relate
![]() I rode bitch on an R6 once... I found it awkward with the handle-strap down under crotch and using the tank for support when stopping. Those passenger handles on the Fz6 would've been nice back then. Good for hooking a net onto for bringing a 24 pack home too |

What about a side car?
![]() On a more serious note you can get those grippy seat covers which stop you sliding.

Re: Yamaha R1 review, as a passenger....
I have to agree here, the FZ6 stomps the R1 in terms of 2up capabilities. there is no way I'd want to hit up any twisties with a passenger on the back of the R1. you really notice how much body position and how weighing the pegs control the bike, once you've got a passenger on back and can no longer do it. hmmm maybe I need another FZ6 in the barn as well???

Re: Yamaha R1 review, as a passenger....
i think i am going to trade in my 08 fz6 for a 07-09 warrior. the sliding is getting very annoying not to mention I like the feel of the warrior fits me comfort wise i can ride much longer distances without hurting!
