The best job in the world.
Hi,
I have recently started to do some part-time work with a private Paramedic company. My first shift was at our local motorcycle speedway. It was unbelievable. I got to stand in the middle of the field and watch these methanol burning nutters (without brakes) fly around a dirt oval at 65mph. It was fantastic to watch. These guys really go for it, their machine control is phenomenal also. Unfortunately three was a huge off and we had to take a couple of guys to hospital. Im going to watch (sorry work) at the national sidecar meet tonight. I will try to post some pics. Cheers Neil Motorcycle speedway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of our local Canadian boys, Kyle Legault has been racing speedway for a few years in the UK. He raced for Scheffeild, and now races for Mildenhall. Im friends with his dad, and Im a big fan of speedway racing. Yeah your right those guys are crazy.

Great side line gig ( job) I used to be a track marshall at our local race track, great fun, great seating and free. Dirt trackers are crazy but sidecar racers are insane, look foreward to seeing some pics.

Hi Pete,
Long time no hear. Yep the side car boys are bonkers. The outfits were mainly R1 methanol driven missiles they run with two gears. The first gear is to launch and the second to terrify the passenger. The meet was great, unfortunately I’m a crap photographer and I was not allowed to use flash. There was a huge crash in heat 12. The outfit left the track and took off. The outfit then landed on the riders head from about 8 feet in the air doing about 40 mph. I’m gona get me a nitro helmet if this is the standard of them. The driver was a really nice guy (older than me in his 40’s) He said he was fine. The Paramedic in charge signed the driver of as unfit to race due to the helmet damage and the mechanism of injury, the driver disputed this and was really insistent that he be allowed to race. He was lying third in the championship and got back up and went to race in the next heat. He obviously had no passenger so one of the drivers that had been eliminated in the heats just volunteered to chair for him. These guys are armatures and the guy’s commitment was un-real. As I said he was a really nice guy and wanting to race had nothing to do with bravado. His passenger, we Boarded and sent to hospital as he had spinal tenderness. I will find out about him tomorrow. The paddock was a really friendly place to. Even though these guys were competing for the championship they would help each other out. I saw one guy go up to a rival and ask to borrow some main jets as he kept bogging down. Without a second thought the rider got off his outfit and got the jets for the other racer. The first pic I couldn't resist. It’s the little fella’s first bike.

Those sidecar racers are freaking NUTS! I've watched them a time or two and just was in awe the whole time.
Pic #2 reminds me of the time I high sided on my dirt bike and split my old Maxon helmet. I literally landed on my head. Always wear your helmet |

I was told not to touch 'Nitro' helmets with the proverbial barge-pole. The empirical evidence seems to suggest otherwise
