So do I pretty much but beware not to get caught in the middle of the jewish/muslim conflict. Her statement "because unlike male circumcision’s beneficial effects" is not true unless for specific, comparatively rare, medical reasons. She is obviously advocating male circumcision from a religious POV which I do not agree with.

He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it . . . |

IMHO- I think the whole covering women up and lashing women if they're not obedient deal really stems from fear and a lack of self esteem on the males' part.
I'm by no means being self-righteous here and I realize that I am far from perfect but I sure would like to go back in time and see just how this all got started. Maybe some guy eons ago was shunned off by a girl and slipped certain passages into a sacred text for a little revenge; I don't know. I don't mean to offend anyone but what exactly is so inherently evil about women (or men for that matter) that one would have to decree some law "lock, stock and barrel"? If I had one wish it would be for everyone to look in the mirror at themselves and realize that we all have many more similarities between each other than differences. That would be a good day in the world for sure. Don't want to get dramatic here but had to chime in on this one. Thanks. |

Re: A ladies ideas on wearing a burkha.
Now this is scientific fact. Millions of species around the world with thousands of biologic variations and we, H. sapiens sapiens are the only one. Regardless of the skin pigment there is more genetic variation in a single tribe of African chimps (Pan troglodyte) than there is the entire sum of humanity. Therefore, there is no var. in terms of human. Rather, we choose to call it race and this has fueled the idiocy of wars and related crimes. Funny, we're supposed to be the intelligent ones...... Go figure....

Re: A ladies ideas on wearing a burkha.
There is the Burka that we see on TV that looks like a gunny sack, and then there are the beautiful robes the women wear in SA. Two very different things. Ya gotta consider that the men wear a "Man-Dress". Think a oxford that goes to your ankles! That type of clothing has its benefit in the horrible heat, it always the air to circulate and keeps the sun off of you.
I didn't travel to SA, but in Kuwait City the women were very western, and very beautiful, most just wore a simple silk scarf on their head with their designer clothing. In the country side it is a whole different matter. As far as the oppression I agree, it is out of place, backward and hypocritical. The men are terrible, they drink, smoke and pretty much do what they want. I'm totally stereotyping here. But there is a big difference between the two genders. I think the writer of the story was lumping all Middle Eastern Women's clothing into the burka bucket which is not accurate.

Quote:
2000+ years ago, the Arabs achieved complete and utter domination over "their" women, which is a cornerstone of the Arab and Muslim belief system and psyche. They do not want to change that. Giving women "rights" or "equality" within their belief system would destroy it forever, so the status quo will remain for another 2000 years....and there's nothing we can do about that.
