I want to move to another country

Not being a hater, I'm just in the mood to try something else, you know life is short so why not try to experience all you can. When I was growing up I got to live in Lagos Nigeria, Tripoli Libya, Cairo Egypt, Athens Greece and London England. And I was in the Army in 3rd ID Kitzingen Germany for almost 3 years. I think I would like my kids (ages 3 and 5) to experience some of the same things I learned that you only learn when living in another country.

Really, the wife and I thought about just selling everything and moving but it would be nice to have a place to go. Plus if you have a job possibility it's easier to get a visa. I have a skill that is in high demand especially in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Middle East (no thanks) and other places including America. I dream about New Zealand though, what a beautiful place. Except my immigration points just don't add up. All I have is an associate degree. But if i had a job offer from a company it would put me over and well it's hard. I think if I sent my resume to a company in NZ when they saw it being from someone 10kmiles+ away they would toss it.

So if anyone in Australia, Canada, or New Zealand has a spare bedroom my wife is a good cook and I keep your yard up and shovel snow. My kids can fetch beer.

Re: I want to move to another country

At work there are a few people from the UK, Germany, France and Austraila. They usually come over here for 2 or 3 years, but some stay longer. Everyone I know that has moved from here to the UK or Europe (for a few years) has loved it. Sounds like a great adventure (I'm a little too chicken).

Re: I want to move to another country

I didn't realize you needed so many "points" to get a visa; I too have been considering New Zealand, semi-seriously.
I would LOVE to live in another country; my twelve years in the active-duty military just never gave me the chance.

Re: I want to move to another country

The UK isn't a bad place to start off. Language is (mostly) the same and it's very close to Europe. No points needed. Just a company to sponsor you.

Now I have nothing, but I'm getting a Gixxer K5 next.

Re: I want to move to another country

Come to Australia, it really is a great place to live, friendly people, great standard of living, lots of jobs for skilled workers with a qualification, great bike roads, beautiful beaches, lots of open space, clean....i can go on and on.

I travelled around Europe for about a year when younger, and the South of France reminded me a bit of Australia... I loved Europe, but Australia IS the lucky country...even if we do whinge about taxes, crap public health, house prices, petrol prices, etc, just like everyone else!

here's the Wikepedia page for where i live, Adelaide, South Australia.

Looks like a great area to live and surf. Long clean waves wow!

I'll look to see if any place has a job I might be qualified for.

Thanks

Re: I want to move to another country

I am from the UK originally, but have lived in Holland, Italy and a few other places in Europe. I am currently very settled in France... I can't recommend seeing, and living in new countries enough! I hear NZ is lovely, good luck with the planning!

Re: I want to move to another country

I've talked to a world traveler who has been everywhere except Antarctica. I asked him if he could live anywhere, where would he go. He said if he didn't just have children, he would move to New Zealand and because he did just have children he would move to Spain. He said Spain has a little bit of everything: beaches, mountains, snow, heat and some of the best education there for the kids. Thought this may be relevant.

I think if I was not married, I would have already moved to Europe for some new experiences myself!

Re: I want to move to another country

I really, really like Spain. As mentioned, beaches, mountians, friendly people, great food, fairly reasonable cost wise, beautiful country.

Australia and New Zealand are on the short list too. Both countries entrigue me a great deal. I've worked a fair number of Aussie Soldiers and Sailors over the years and to a person their sense of humor and life in general is like no other.
