I'm thinking of buying this 1980 Camaro Z28, What should I pay for it???...

So i just looked at this guys true 1980 Z28 Camaro. It has 94,000 miles on it, brand new paint job (coco brown). The body is straight, no dings, rust, anything... The interior is clean. The dash board is cracked, faded. The rear bumper frame under the car is rusted through in spots, a spot in the trunk is rusted through maybe the size of a half dollar.

It needs new tires, new shifter linkage, new door arm rest, new dash board, new door latch spring, and some other odds and ends...

He was asking $5,000 then said the lowest he will go is $4,000

What do you guys think?

One word. Rust.

Another word. New paint.

I'll bet good money that the body was horrible, and the owner covered the problems with bondo and then painted it.

Wait a year, that rust will come back from underneath the Bondo.

IMHO, offer $1000 and if he doesn't take it, walk away.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I agree.....it will be a never ending battle with the rust. It it is very likely that the car was bondo'd and then repainted to "freshen" it up for sale.

If it were me..I would keep looking.

My first car was a 1980 Z28, and it eventually rusted to the ground. Just beware and check it over real well. I would also no pay any more that $1500 fo rit.

everyone is giving the correct advice.. 1500 at the max.. bad gas mileage .. probably bondo everywhere.. rust is already comming thru.. and the bumper is crap... 1500 max..

Come-on I'm the brutal one!

I agree with all prior posts. The late 70's early 80's were the absolute worst years for American cars. They had subscribed to that forced obsolesence idea to try to get people to buy new cars every 5 years, so people bought Japanese.

I don't know but I got an '05 FZ6 I can sell you for $15,000.

I know, I know, come on it was a J/k

anyways, the only way I would pay 5Gs for an '80 Z28is if it was a total redue. New rims, tires, a great stereo system, NO RUST, great paint job, atleast a 350 c.i. V8 with low miles.

Just for what it's worth I bought an '81 about 3 years ago had a little bit of rust, t-tops, ok stereo, 305 v8. I paid only $750.00.

I say PASS he's trying to rip you off!!!!!!

Dude, why? Sounds like a horrible deal and it's not even a cool car. If you're just looking for a reliable mode of transportation in that $5,000 price range find a honda civic or toyota camery or truck etc. etc. If you're looking for a toy, you're going to need to pony up some more cash. Good luck.
