Exhaust to hot for saddle bags?

I am wondering if the exhaust will get to hot for saddle bags without some sort of a gaurd. I just got a great deal on a set of Eclipse saddle bags; they have a soft fleece/cotton backing on the bags and I am wondering if I will need to do something so the bags/bike dont get damaged. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! Thanks!

If you notice... there is a plastic shroud over the exhaust pipes as they exit the back of the bike... they barely get warm to the touch. Unless you mount your bags over the back (exhaust openning), you have nothing to worry about. Besides, if they were that hot to cause damage, you couldn't even have a passenger, let alone soft luggage near them...

I would make sure that the bags are not covering any of the ventilation openings on the plastic shrouds. I suspect that if you blocked those off, temperatures would rapidly increase under the bike's tail.

They should be fine. Some saddle bags have built in heat shields to protect them. I'm looking in getting hard case saddle bags for this summer and they okay even without those heat shields.

I've been using the Cortech soft bags for a year now. The backing on them is a neoprene pad. They haven't melted or anything so I wouldn't worry about heat being an issue.

Was this great deal something that is still open (internet special) or did you buy them from a buddy or some one off kind of thing?

I am interested in picking up some bags for this summers longer rides.

No, I bought it off of Craigslist.org...my recommendation is to look online on a site like ebay! You can really find some great deals! You also will probably start to see some great deals now that it is almost Spring time! Good luck!

If I may ask a related question: what happens when you get set up with a set of aftermarket cans, like Scorpions or Two Bros. Racing? They don't have the plastic "outer covers"...

Whenever i had an aftermarket exhaust it never got hot at all, with the higher flow they barely get warm to the touch, No idea if it is any different with the undertail.
