Looking for Info on Price for 2008 FZ6

Hi Guys,
I was uncertain about which bike to buy and for how much before I stumbled across this forum through web search.
Very helpful forum, and my mind is set on 2008 FZ6 now.
Still need a little help with the price though. Can anyone guide me with a price range? Or, if you bought an 08, how much it cost you?
Thanks,
~A

Re: Looking for Info on Price for 2008 FZ6

Welcome to the forum. I had posted the following in the thread titled "negotiate" which is in "The Bar" section. You will find comments from other folks there as well.

Haggling will always be worth it but the end result of that haggling may very. There are two places a dealer has to play in terms of not changing the MSRP or digging into that price and they are shipping as well as set-up fees. The dealer invoice price has both within that price and they are a far cry from what you see on the sticker. Bikes like Harley-Davidson are a bit different in that the way Harley works is more like a cage purchase.

In terms of cash, keep it as I would rather have the financed unit because I can make money off the financing where I can't in terms of cash. Therefore, I would be more willing to play on the financed unit. Using a credit card to full pay doesn't work either in that I must pay a percentage of the price for you to use that card and it isn't the same as cash.

Dealer invoices can be purchased on line and this will give you a heads up on what the actual dealer cost is for the specific unit. Keep in mind this is what it costs that dealer so you can now see what the mark up is for the bike you want. Now you have something to haggle over. Here is the one I use......

CycleBuy Invoice Information

You can also go to a credit union or your bank and ask for the printed edition of the Kelley Blue Book Official Motorcycle Guide. There is a section in the back called "loan codes." The dealer invoice for many motorcycles can be found in that section. This book may also be found in some public libraries.

Haggle on...
Charlie

Ahh....another member who's smart enough into gaining some useful information before they go into battle with the dealership. There are several threads regarding price, but here's the largest one. This thread is almost a year old, but the most recent posts should give you the latest prices. Some members have gotten an '07 for just over $6,000 OTD. There is no difference between the '08's except for color.

Re: Looking for Info on Price for 2008 FZ6

Thanks for your responses. I looked at the thread mentioned and found some good info.

Most of the price info is for 2007 models and to some extent these prices were governed by the fact that dealers wanted to move out '07 inventory to make room for '08s. But there is no real technological difference between '07 and '08, so I could probably use that as an argument.

For an '08 FZ6, would $6300 - $6400 OTD be a good starting point?

VA has 5% sales tax, and kbb.com says the retail price for '08 FZ6 is $5905.
So, my calculation becomes:
Bike : 5905
STax: 295
Rest : 200-300
That makes it 3-4% for dealer, plus whatever incentives they get from the manufacturer, and whatever they get from the retail price.

Am I correct?

Re: Looking for Info on Price for 2008 FZ6

I just bought an 08 yesterday. I can tell you I paid 7039 OTD, including fees and 6% sales tax. I probably could have got it cheaper, but I didn't really haggle with them.

I went in knowing the dealership only had 08's and no 07's left, so I tried to use this to my advantage. I explained why I wanted the bike, and that I was dead set on the FZ6 and it had to be an 07 or 08. Then I explained the problem was that I would love to purchase from their dealership because it's so close to my home, but with deals on 07s all around, and the only difference being color choice, I couldn't possibly pay MSRP. The salesman went to the manager to see about a price. The manager came back and said 6500 plus tax. I asked about additional fees, and was told a $149 doc. fee.

I went in with the mind set that I would pay no more than MSRP OTD, as this seemed like a reasonable deal for myself and the dealership. The price was within $40 so I was fine just accepting it. I really wanted to purchase from them anyway since they're a half mile from home.

You could probably do better, probably do worse. Hope this helps.

Re: Looking for Info on Price for 2008 FZ6

Dang, you beat me to post. 6300-6400 OTD sounds like it'd be an insanely good deal. Doesn't kbb.com say retail price they are suggesting for an 07 is $5905, not an 08? It seems like dealer invoice would be around that for an 08, like they'd be making no money at that price except whatever fees they charge. I thought they only got incentives to sell last years models? Maybe they get incentives for selling large volumes? If you go in with the mindset you're paying no more than 6300-6400 maybe you won't.

Maybe I'm doing more harm than help?

Congrats on your new 08. This is helpful. I will try to keep that price as my maximum, if possible.

Did anyone else here buy an 08 recently, and for how much?

I changed the URL slightly to get the 08 retail price. It's the same as 07 price.

Kelley Blue Book - Enter Your ZIP Code

I think 6300-6400 would be a great deal for me. I will probably have to agree to slightly higher price to make it a good deal for the dealer as well.
