2004 or 2005

I am currently looking at a couple different FZ6's. Bikes are pretty much identical shape. One is an 2004 with 15,000 miles the other is an 2005 with 5000 miles. They want $3800 and $4900 respectivly. What bike you guys recommend? Is it worth the extra year and 10,000 less miles for $1100?

Depends how long are you're going to keep it and what are you're going to use it for.

Ask both sellers about the TPS, the dive shaft locknut washer, and the steering head bearings.

$3800 and $4900 are a bit high for a bike with 15,000 miles on it. The 16K service on the bike might run you around $600 when you take it to dealer. I bought a brand new 2007 for $6100 OTD, with 0 miles on it and delivered to my garage.

I paid 4900 for a 2005 with 3000 miles on it. I also purchased mine from a dealer though

Re: 2004 or 2005

well, it depends on how the bike will be used, i personally would get the 04, miles don't matter much to me since i am fairly handy and know enough people that know what i don't, so i get repairs done for the cost of beer and parts. I also ride about 15,000 miles a year, so i would catch up to the higher mileage within a summer anyway, so it would not be worth $1000 to be 4 months ahead in the game. Pocket the $1100 and put it towards new suspension and it will feel like a better than new bike. you can also get new engines down the road if it ever comes to that. but you can do a lot with an "extra" $1100.

I bought my 04 with about 8000 miles for 3 grand. I did buy from a private owner. You might be able to talk him down off that 3800.

Ouch...it's more fun and much cheaper if you do some work yourself.

This is basically my take on it but everything will differ from person to person.

Servicing this bike is pretty simple providing you have thin arms and can help sheep to give birth....those F&&&&&g sparkplugs.

Its a great bike and well worth the pain.

Re: 2004 or 2005

Thanks for all of the responses. I currently do all of the work myself on the bike I have now, so maintainance costs dont really scare me. From what I have gathered 3800 might still be a little too much, but I am in Minnesota and bikes seem to run a little more here. I guess I will have to look a little bit harder still.

Re: 2004 or 2005

I bought my 05 in August of 06, brand new with 0 miles for $4,900 before dealer fees and such....so $4,900 seems high to me, but it may be a matter of them being more expensive in MN...not sure.

Here is the important question no one is asking - is either of them in Faster Blue? If so, get that one...hands down.
