Do you mean MX gloves? They don't provide a lot of protection - IMO, not enough for tarmac.

I slip nitrile gloves underneath my regular gloves if it's chilly (some say to use latex, but I've done too much lab work in my life to want to risk sensitization). If it's cold (freezing or below), I have a set of Cold Front Carbon insulated/waterproof/armored gloves.

I tried a non-ridged bar muff a few years ago. At speeds greater than 80mph. the buggers would collapse and pull the bloody front break on. it was very frustrating. I tried putting wire in them and all sorts. On the plus side they worked 100% in keeping fingers toasty.
