My Frozen Digits
Rode to work this morning in 40degree+ weather. Basically from RI to Boston. Figured with the gloves I was wearing (Fox cloth) it wouldn't be so bad. My fingers were frozen to the point of pain.
What do others wear in this in between weather? Would leather had been better? Any suggestions, and just curious as to what others wear. Thanks Paul

Re: My Frozen Digits
insulated leather gloves work well. I keep hot hands in my tankbag or under the seat. They help alot.

Re: My Frozen Digits
I've ridden in 20 and lower weather, and yes the biggest problem is the fingers. Only thing I came up with was using Underarmour gloves underneath my regular bike gloves and that helps a bit, I would say for about 30 degrees and up but with the low temps I did suffer a bit still.

Re: My Frozen Digits
I use a Gortex lined gauntlet type glove that works well in temps under 30 degrees and to back them up I have a second pair of gloves that stay against my chest. When the pair I am using starts to feel cold I just stop and switch gloves then put the cold pair back against my chest to get warm again. This way I always have a warm pair to put on.

Re: My Frozen Digits
Winter Riding always leaves me with "turkey talon syndrome." Obviously Insulated leather gloves and heated grips would be a big help, but lately I've been picturing dirtbike/enduro style hand guards to keep the cold wind off.
Acerbis or similar... Multiconcept "T" Touring Handguards I haven't tried this yet, but I hope to soon. (by "soon" I mean a month into next winter when I've nearly lost a few digits to frostbite) |

Re: My Frozen Digits
For winter weather, I actually look more towards skiing or snowmobile gloves. The key is to get something that's windproof. Leather will not necessarily be better, and is arguably worse, since leather "locks in" cold and makes for a mediocre insulator at best.
I myself will ride in 30-40F temps, and have a pair of winter gloves I picked up from Cabelas, that are wind & waterproof. Overall, they do a good job. I've also heard of folks wearing silk liner gloves for additional warmth, but never tried that one myself.

Re: My Frozen Digits
I use summer gloves...really thin kangaroo leather but it means the heat from my heated grips hits me faster...and its alot warmer...but if you want to get some good gloves look into heated gloves.

Re: My Frozen Digits
Gerbing make some good heathe gloves. I have some thin, wool inner liners that I wear under my normal gloves. When it's bitter cold (i.e. below freezing) I add windstopper gloves on top of it all. Works fine unless it's raining as well. All bets are off then.

Thats still cold as, I use the claw type glove which is a mix of leather and textile. Works for me on longer journeys at similar temps. Neil
