6th gear?

I'm having a tough time getting into 6th it seems that I have to hold the clutch in just a little longer than when shifting into other gears. It also seems physically harder to move the shift lever. Anyway I have less than 100 miles and for now I'm chalking it up to break in. What do you think?

Re: 6th gear?

Never had any trouble with mine. Sounds odd. All the other changes are ok?

Re: 6th gear?

with mine the transmission got clunkier as the break in miles went up. I know it is "Early" but try an oil change and it may take care of it, if not my guess is that the other gears will start to get clunkier.

Re: 6th gear?

When I first got my bike and didn't really know it I had issues with both 5th and 6th gear. At speeds below roughly 60mpg it didn't really want to go in which I later attributed to the speeds I was going and the fact I was on the cruise while shifting as opposed to accelerating. Now, after 15,000 miles I have figured out that while I can use both it is much easier to just wait until I am up past that 60mph before using either of them.

Re: 6th gear?

Maybe I'm not giving the RPM's enough time to roll down.

Sounds like a break in issue. Change the oil. As a matter of fact, when the tranny gets a little funny, changing the oil will sometimes help. It does in my other bike.

There's a good deal of truth to this and I hadn't really thought about it until now. I switched mine over to 20w50 SYN3 at 290 miles and things got much better. I had a case of the oil which I was using in the Sporty at that time. I later switched both over to 15W50 Mobil 1.

Re: 6th gear?

you can switch into 6th without any problem going at 50mph... I wouldn't recommend it but it seems a bit odd. Like others have said change the oil, and make sure you are using firm pressure to move the lever. would doubt theres a problem with the shifting forks on a new bike....

Re: 6th gear?

Try to shift every gear at around 5500 or 6000 rpms. Its not too fast but still has enough rpms to shift smooth. The faster the rpms the easier to shift it should be. The gears should just glide together.

If that doesnt help try to put a different type of oil in it. If that dont help take it to the dealer.

Where did you buy it? I live in santa fe, south of houston.
