Yes it is a great bike, until you see the maintenance costs. If you plan on putting any signifigant mileage on, be prepared to shell out some serious cash!!!!! Valve adjustments every 6000 miles! The dealer said the camshafts and rocker arms need to (usually) be replaced after 12,000 to 16,000 miles! I could afford the bike, but not the maintenance, even if I do it my self.

Supposedly the new Monster 696 has HALF the maintenance costs of the older engines.

If it suits your riding, go for it. Who would turn down a Ferrari? As has been mentioned deep pockets need only apply. Good luck.

Re: Thinking about switching to a Ducati 848

Been thinking about the 848 myself. BUT, I will only do it if I decide to shell out the coin to keep both bikes; streetfightered FZ for short city trips and long weekenders, and the 848 for 3 hour nice weather jaunts through the countryside.

In the name of staying alive though, perhaps a cheap rice burner (and subsequent track days) would be wiser for now. The 848 can wait another year.

Re: Thinking about switching to a Ducati 848

I had an SS800. My bro had an ST2 that I stored and rode for a while. There's a reason I got an FZ6. I prefer riding to wrenching.
