Dead Battery....

went for my first road ride today with a buddy down to the beach. when we got there (about a 20 min ride) I turned off my bike and we chilled for about 20 mins. We left and it started fine. About 3 minutes later I stalled it on a hill. Went to start it up and it did a turn then started clicking. Dead battery..I think. I did the dual light mod, and I have led podlights. I installed these using the proper method found in the mod section. I get home after jump starting it on the hill I was on and got home around 30 minutes later. Tuirned off the bike. Tried starting it and same noise. Wondering if the batt should have charged on the way home, no? Any help would be appreciated. Its an 06 with about 30 km on it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Dead Battery....

Well try to fully charge the batt with a charger, then if it still does it replace the battery.

If its been sitting since manufacture in 06 the battery could be failed already. Most likely though if you fully charge it, it will be fine.

Re: Dead Battery....

If I need a new battery, would that be covered under warranty?

Re: Dead Battery....

It just seems weird that you did a light mod, and now all of a sudden you have a battery problem. Are you sure you don't have a grounded wire. Maybe one of the light pod wires had a bare spot in it and it's touching metal somewwhere. Anyways, if you go to the dealer, don't advertise the light mods. They may just turn their problem into your problem. MATT

Re: Dead Battery....

Hi there,

We did dual light mod on Sunday. Also installed both SilverStar bulbs. Don't see any problems so far now. Mod works as advertised, both low beams OR low beam + high beam. It should not drain battery, I hear that mean people ride with high beam at all times (low beam + high beam) for increased daylight visibility.
Few days ago I read a thread where somebody explained how FZ6 charging system works. Something with resistor for load .. have to find it and read again. Doesn't sound like most advanced system in the world.

Re: Dead Battery....

For what it's worth, I ran my battery completely out this spring. Left the radar detector on... I tried to start it with a normal battery charger and couldn't revive it well enough to last really long. I dropped it off at a local dealer for the weekend and they put it on their fancy charger. It rejuvinated the battery perfectly! I haven't had a problem in the past 1 1/2 months. I think they charged me $5, which is way cheaper than a new battery...

Re: Dead Battery....

What about the simple thing of making sure the battery has a good connection? Sometimes the easiest method can fix the prob.
