Tightening Bolts.....

Not sure if this is going to come off as a stupid question but...how far should you go when checking for loose bolts, screws? Should I remove the fairings? Which specific bolts? should I use Loc-tite on all of them, only some? Just curious. Thanks

Re: Tightening Bolts.....

I am thinking of removing my fairing completely and loc-titeing all of the bolts under there, and then anything i can see i will at least tighten down. My mirrors were starting to get loose yesterday on my way to work, so when i got to work I took off the inner fairing to tighten at least those until i can get to all of it and i had lost one of the bolts on the right side mirror and the other was very loos as well.

Loc-Tite is on the agenda, for me at least

Re: Tightening Bolts.....

You can put loc-tite on some of them. I would make sure not to put it on the bolts you would need to remove for maintenance down the road. If you loc-tite all the bolts on the fairing how will you remove it to flush the radiator? Unless you have an 07 or newer model, then i will just keep to myself.........

Loc-tite and motorcycles are like toast and jam, they go together quite well. The nice thing about Loc-tite is they make a number of grades with a variety of strengths. For example, you would not want to put 271 on bolts that were used in an area that would need to be removed for maintenance because this is generally for high stress areas like head bolts, exhaust studs and so on. Rather, you would use the lesser strength 240. It all boils down to the level you strength you need and the vibrations that are associated with that specific application.

Thats good advice.

When I was an apprentice many moons ago I'd have to check drawings and parts list for the correct type and application of adhesives.

Re: Tightening Bolts.....

I would think that the weak loc tite would be good for most bolts that I will be tightening on the bikes since all i am trying to do is stop the vibrations from loosening the bolts/nuts.

Re: Tightening Bolts.....

I loc tite blue them when I come to them.

I lost 2 out of the side radiator cover so I would suggest you all check them.
