Off for a holiday ride.

The parents and I have been talking for the past few weeks about planning a ride over the 4th, since the shop my father works at is closed this week.

Tonight we just finished up making the hotel reservations with moms points she earns while on buisness trips.

We are planning on going to Helen, Ga and staying tomorrow night. While we are there, hanging out and enjoying the town. It is supposed to be pretty neat there.

The next day back road north up to Athens, TN. Take in some the North GA Mtns on the way.

The next morning head out to Teleco Plains, ride the Cherahala, make a run up Deals Gap, and head back home.

Looks like it is shaping up to be a good ride. As always my trusty 40D will be traveling with me, so look for a few shots when I get back in.

I am stoked about it. This will be the first time taking the FZ across the gap! Should be fun.

Have a fun and safe trip Bryan!

This should do wonders for your standing in the mileage contest.

Re: Off for a holiday ride.

Yea I should do pretty well this month. However since people arent posting up their mileages its kinda hard to tell where I stand.

I left my small digi at charlotte, however my parents camera takes nice videos so I imagine we will be setting it up somehow.

I have been sending messages back and forth to Darryl, AKA Killboy. Last night, Lori, his wife responded back with a few answers. But I believe we are going to stop and talk with him possibly just to put a name to a face.

Well, off to go get the bikes ready. Well once I get some coffee and have a shower, with out those two Im prone to do some dumb things.

There is a link to the town we are staying at tonight.

Just be careful. Per ABC News:
Quote:
Indeed, more Americans are killed in car crashes on July 4th than on any other day of the year, according to an examination by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety between 1995 and 2005. The IIHS found that July 3rd took a close second place when it came to traffic deaths.

Forty-one percent of traffic deaths on the 4th of July were attributed to drunk drivers, according to the IIHS study -- compared with approximately a third of deaths attributed to alcohol on a typical day.
The Dragon is a dangerous place even on a normal day - which of course is why we all want to ride there. I rode it both directions several years ago - but it was nearly deserted that day - since it was raining. With lots of riders on a good weather day you have to watch out for the other guy(or gal) as much as you do for the Dragon himself. Have fun - but come home in one piece!

Oh as always! I am sure the THP will be up there heavily this weekend to slow things down.

I am not so much worried about the other bikes as much as I am of the semi's! Those scare the crap out of me.

Well back down to make a few last minute changes and then we will start loading up.

If I dont check this again before I leave:

Ill should post something as soon as I get back I imagine on Saturday evening. May not have pictures up till Sunday.

Im out like like a fat kid in dodge ball.

Re: Off for a holiday ride.

Welp, made it back. Tired and a bit wet. 919.0 miles, compared to my fathers 870 miles. I will explain that story later.

Re: Off for a holiday ride.

Sounds similar to a trip my son and I are taking in September. We've got a house trailer reserved for a week. We'll be riding the north Georgia mountains, the Dragon and any other roads that look interesting. My brother is bringing his Kawi ZRX up from Ft Myers FL and we're making it a mini family get-together. It should be a blast.

Awsome.

Look for an update in my blog site (first link in my sig) soon. I will be putting up all the roads we were on and talk a little bit about them. When ever you are putting together the plan, let me know. Between my father and I we have been over many roads and that area. I will gladly let you know if we had been on it or not and how we liked it. If am not mistaken there are a few other members on here that live in that area that can probably help even more.

I will say this much. Hwy 73 Senic Bypass on the edge of tennessee is really nice. Runs along a winding creek/river. Slow moving, depending on traffic, but its nice.

Re: Off for a holiday ride.

Appreciate the offer. My brother is in the ZRXOA and they ride there fairly often. I haven't ridden north GA 60 in a long while. I'm looking forward to the trip. Last year we met up in Kentucky where Dad grew up and spent a week riding eastern KY and southern WV. Had a great time. If all goes according to plan, the Georgia trip will be the second good trip of the year. Working on plans to ride the Adirondacks in New York next month.
