The "tire shelf life" thread started me on this
Hi All
I tried to view the ABC video on the "Tire Shelf Life" thread. Couldn't get it to work. All I got was a commercial and then the browser closed. Anyway, I have a 93 Yamaha Seca II. (perhaps a FZ6 or FZ1 to be purchased soon) It was sitting unused for a few years. I paid a fortune to get it fixed this year which included Metzler Lassertec tires. I felt I got ripped off on the price and workmanship so I definitely wanted to check the age of the tires by reading the date codes. I'm not sure I'm looking at the right numbers but I think I am. If so, they are from 07. Now, here's the problem. The "rotation" arrow on the rerar tire is pointing in the wrong direction! They put the tire on backwards! ARGHHHH!!!!! How dangerous is that? |

I dont think its a big deal untill your riding in the rain (don't quote me on that though). But I would take it back and make them redo it.

It goes like this
month month year year one made today would show 0708 or week week year year The arrow is a huge deal. The tires are built to eject water in a specific manner and put down power in the rear. The front is built to eject water and handle tremendous brake loads. They are wound differently and built differently.

Tires on backwards?
Hmm...let's think about things that works BETTER while going backwards! 1) Toilets? 2) Guns? 3) Giving Birth? You get the point. You'd better put your tires in the right direction...

Re: The "tire shelf life" thread started me on this
You gotta wonder sometimes who some shops entrust with work. How many stories do we hear of owners sometimes being better off NOT having a shop doing the work and becoming a DIY'er? But a tire mount, most of us don't want to shell out the money for a tire changer and the rear tire is probably too hard to change with only levers. Geesh. I remember once when a worker at a Sears tire store didn't rotate the wheels/tires right as I had requested. The person didn't understand "LF, RF, RR, LR" This person worked with tires?? OMG.

Yes, it seems incompetence is everywhere these days, even for the simplest things. It’s truly a shame how anything in any of the service industries have become a “give me your money then get out of my face” scenario. Quite depressing and frustrating at times.
I really need to learn more on the mechanical side of things. I just started riding again after a three year break. Since joining this forum I can see so much has changed since I bought my Seca, which uses these antique things called “carbs”, 15 years ago. This site has been great as a start. Anyway, the shop opens in a little while. I’ll be sure to post and reiterate whatever song and dance they give me. I bet it will be a good one. Thanks for your help. |

Just spoke to the dealer. He was quite agreeable to me bringing in the bike and fixing it immediately. So that's a relief.
Well, back to shopping for a FZ6 or FZ1. This is a really great site. Have fun, ride safe ! |

I like your old Seca II, that is a great little bike, the forefather of our FZ6. Good luck on your decision, either FZ is GREAT!
