Re: Helmetless motorcycle riders = organ donors?
Tough subject. I'd say everyone should have the right to choose for themselves, except that we're all stuck paying the bills (through higher insurance premiums) for the idiots who ride without helmets . If you ride a motorcycle, you WILL end up on the ground (softly if you're lucky).
If it weren't for my full-faced helmet, I would be severely disfigured, or dead. I will never ride without a one, and I think that anyone who does (or even rides with a half-helmet) is really stupid. They get no respect from me, regardless of how nice their bikes are.

Don't ever think that full face helmet can't do damage on it's own because it can and has to many a rider with a broken clavicle although this is rare. I have full face, MX, 3/4 and half shell. Thirteen helmets in all and I love every one of them. It just depends on which bike I am riding as to which one I choose. Interestingly, my head never gets too hot or sweaty and I have yet to be stung wearing the half shell; I have with the full face. You will also note that most Police Departments in the US do not require their Officers to wear a full face helmet. Yes, the full face or MX helmets do have their respective advantages but I feel quite safe in any of my helmets. As to stuck paying the bills, this may be the case if, and only if the rider comes into the critical care unit and has no insurance in a life threatening situation or that individuals care goes beyond that of the insurance coverage and an application for state aid is submitted and approved. Your argument is much better suited to the physical health issues associated with obesity as this costs the American taxpayer millions each year. |

Re: Helmetless motorcycle riders = organ donors?
My husband is alive today only because he was wearing his full-face Shoei back in 1992 (I didn't meet him until 1998). Even with the helmet on he ended up with a broken jaw and a skull fracture. He still has the helmet, and you can see the white paint on it from the car he hit.
We have a helmet law in Alberta, but even when we're riding through states without one, I will NEVER ride my motorcycle without my helmet, and neither will he. |

How did he break his jaw with the full face helmet on? Did the helmet break or was it possibly the wrong size? |

I'd never ride without one, but the libertarian in me says that the government shouldn't get in the business of protecting stupid people from themselves.

Re: Helmetless motorcycle riders = organ donors?
It makes perfect sense to me, after wearing your helmet for two years, it’s been proven that your skull hardens to that equal to a brick!!
Eemmmmmmmmm You’ve only got to have quick browse on the net to see what happen to a head vs. tarmac |
