Reminded

So, I rode in to work today. I have been trying to at least a couple three times per week. Pretty much went like every other ride in to work. A maxima did try to "keep" with me or something like that, even though I was just accelerating pretty normally, maybe 1/4-1/3 throttle, now that I look back on it. I did pack my own lunch today though, so my backpack was a little heavier. I usually leave with my dad at lunch since he works here too, and we go to his house or out. I've been trying to eat healthy so I brought a salad.

So I'm sitting at my desk and finish my salad at about 12:04. I decide, since it's a beautiful day out, I'll go for a quick ride. So I put my boots on and grabbed my helmet, gloves, and jacket and went outside. It's really nice here, sunny blue skies, and about 75 maybe a light breeze. Beautiful.

So I start the bike and gear up and leave. I head towards down town and in a couple short minutes I am cruising by the beach. There were a fair share of people enjoying lake MI. More than I expected for only being 75 out. (I think it's perfect, but) The hotter it is the more people down there. So I ride by both beaches keeping my eye out for hotties and get back on top of the bluff and head away from town.

I've really only been using my bike to commute with so the only fun I've had has been on on-ramps getting on the highway, where the is usually a car in front of me. I leave my apt and in about a mile of city I am getting on a highway, then a couple miles changing over to another one, and then on that for about 45 miles until I get off and have a few more miles of city. It's an ok ride, I'm used to it by now. I don't like so much the bumps along the way, since our roads suck here in MI. Since I've taken the MSF course I have been trying to ride with more of a wrist down posture and I think it's helped on the bumps.

I also think it has gotten me used to 1/2 throttle. I think I forgot about the other half since to use it I would have to really crank my arm around. I just haven't been using it. And I must have just really, really forgotten...

Well....As I was headed away from town this afternoon I was crusing and there was no traffic. So, I pulled in the clutch, downshifted twice, and let her rip. HOLY CRAP! I had forgotten how quickly this thing got up and went. My heart started racing as a smile formed on my face, the whole time holding on tighter and tighter for fear that the damn thing was going to say "See YA!" and shoot off into warp speed leaving me on my butt in the middle of the road. The sound of the Scorps singing through my helmet, that sweet Yamaha song. (It was soo nice to hear since I wear earplugs for highway droning and I wasn't for this ride) It was great. By the time I glanced down I was doubling the speed limit . Whoops...

It just reminded me that I can have my cake and eat it too. A mild mannered (albeit loud thanks to scorpion )commuter bike when I manage the throttle, and a wicked fast awesome handling steet monster when I loosen the reigns.

It just shunned any thoughts about maybe wanting some more roll on torque in the lower r's by reminding me there is a huge range of r's to be used. I think the "lack" of some torque down low helps keep you in check and makes you more prone to stay out of trouble on the street.

I'm coming up on 7000 miles here pretty soon on my '07, and it is definately not getting old. I'm still just breaking the surface with it.

I just wanted to share. Thanks.

Yea, I LOVE the fall. I just don't like when a leaf blows off a tree and hits you while you're going down the road lol. But I can't wait until hoodie weather comes back. So beautiful...
