The clutch is kinda touchy but you will get used to that. I will tell you that it breaks in over time as well. for the first 500 miles or so this clutch was a BIOTCH!!! it was either engaged or not, there was an almost non-existent sweet spot, it has gotten far better since I put another 1k on it. at 1500 now and it's just perfect give it some time!

Engage Turbo

It's awesome, once the engine starts to purr (whine loudly to everyone else) it's like she's pulling me along quickly off the stop light...but then...PSHHHHHHHHHH, I get pushed at higher rpms which immediately transfers to heart rate and attentiveness...

just be careful where you open her up...once she knows you want it, there's no going back!

Don't do your first 1st gear to 2nd gear power shift like I did.
I was at a stop sign in the country and I decided to play drag racer.
Nailed it in first, OK, then hit second, Wow, a five foot wheelie which
was Ok except my left had came off the bar because it shifted so hard.
Luckily I was able to get the hand back on the bar quickly before the bike came down, and saved the day.
Had to change my britches however!

Re: Just got over 7k RPM for the first time... WOW!

GIVE ME MORE!! I just hit 12k in 2nd gear (somewhere around the 75mph range) and am hooked! My poor girlfriend keeps wondering where I'm disappearing to.

As far as shifting, the preload technique has helped a whole lot. I still get a little jump into second (but no 5 foot wheelie... yet).

Alright, enough typing. I've gotta go ride some more! I bought the bike last Friday with 42 miles on it and have already doubled that. Let's see if I can triple it next week! -John

My rev limiter kicks in at 12K also which is right at the begining of red line. I have to wonder why your kicks in at 14K. Maybe something to look into.

My redline is at 14,000 RPM. That is what the manual said, and that is what the tack says.

Re: Just got over 7k RPM for the first time... WOW!

Been revving higher recently as per advice on the boards, and also in this thread, and WOW does it smooth things out...

*Much* smoother gear changes, and the bike just seems to 'flow'. I am even more impressed than I was before! Can't wait until I have no limits at all to worry about!

Welcome and congrat with new bike
It still fresh in my mind that jet feelin in 7K get use to it and take it slowly
Once you in control and know how your bike and body react to this jet then you ll flying quick up to 12K....
Count up 3sec and you up to 80mph in 2sd gear hohohohohohoho....

I was accelerating today in 2nd and saw that I was heading toward the magic mark. Being a pretty new rider, I generally try to keep it under 6k, but I decided to go for it and kept on the throttle. It's truly amazing how the bike goes from \"touring\" to \"sport\"- Acceleration becomes smoother and the whole bike just feels different.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that kickass experience. As a sidenote, I'm still trying to figure out whether it's better to start from a rest in 1st or 2nd. I've found 1st to be a bit too touchy but 2nd is difficult, especially on hills. Any thoughts from the seasoned riders? Thanks for the input!

Re: Just got over 7k RPM for the first time... WOW!

I was wrong on my post above. The rev limiter does kick in at 14K. I was just just thinking off the top of my head when I said 12K. I've hit 14K numerous times, I was just thinking it was 12 at the time. That and I don't look at the instrument cluster that much.

Re: Just got over 7k RPM for the first time... WOW!

Clutch control, it's something that everyone has to work out when you start riding. Most sport riders like to 'pop' the clutch and go. It's fun to do when your trying to go fast. However when your just trying to ride normal learning where the friction zone is will help you learn how to take off normal and not end up 'jumpy'.

I like to hit those higher rmp's is great, and yes make sure your pointing in the right direction. I've never actually done a wheelie but I have felt the front wheel lift and lose traction.
