I like the instrument cluster.... I think we would benefit from having some of these smaller bikes in our market in the U.S. I also like that FZ250 |

Re: Most of us are lucky. Look at the FZ16
You have to look at economic factors.
In India, a FZ6 would cost 480,000 rupees. The AVERAGE wage in India is 192,000 rupees a year. There's a hell of a lot of people earning a lot less than that. Someone earning average wage would have to spend two and a half years gross wages to buy an FZ6. Now think about the cost of your bike compared to your gross annual wages. Kinda hits home hard doesn't it.

Re: Most of us are lucky. Look at the FZ16
I like it. As many have said, it's perfect for the market. Except, as akshye mentioned, the lack of kick start.
I love small displacement machines. My XT225 is a blast for commuting. I wish small bikes had a better name in this country. When I'm out on the XT people often say things like "Why don't you get a real bike?" F 'em. You don't know "flickable" till you've ridden something under 250cc.

I also like it. I think most of us are misunderstanding the reality of the situation in India; it's not full of wide, well-maintained roads, or frankly huge SUVs that you need to get out of the way of.
It IS full of traffic and potholes. I think for the application, this is a great option (though I concur on the kickstart). Go Yamaha or Go Home! |

Re: Most of us are lucky. Look at the FZ16
I wonder what spec tyres are used. All look pretty ropey and those on the Bajaj look like the're made out of black shiny cheese.
I think the FZ16 and the R15 are great - lucky Indians. I do have one question though. Being India, why only one set of pillon pegs??

Re: Most of us are lucky. Look at the FZ16
Being an Indian and having the experience of riding in Indian roads in rain/summer/winter...no helmet..(4 yrs back I would have asked u whats a riding gear!!) for close to 10 yrs...I very well know that riding a fz6 in Indian roads would have been a nightmare to say the least. Imagine this..the max speed more often than not that ppl ride is no more than 30mph. not to forget the kind of roads/ppl walking/crossing/cows/bullock carts and more..
In short for Indian roads and conditions I still believe any bike more than 250cc is an utter useless. I had a 150cc bike and it was fun to ride. I had never asked for more power than what I had. 250cc would have been fun but it wouldnt add anything more to what I had. bcoz u cant ride faster in those rodes. whats the point of having high performance engines. If I remember India has close to 40-50 types of motorcycles which range from 100cc-250cc. Basic mode of transportation is 2-wheeler. Believe me riding those small bikes is loads of fun. 10yrs back car was considered a symbol of rich. But yes things are changing and hope someday soon roads improve and when I get back home I get to ride a Fz6! KB |

Re: Most of us are lucky. Look at the FZ16
What are the possibilities of getting FZ16's headlight to to a naked conversion, the headlight would not cost more than $100, considering Burlington Yamaha's $1000 conversion kit, it might be worth a try...
thoughts? I once found a complete Fz6N assembly for 150 Euros on Ebay italy, but the guy wont ship to US ![]() cheers, _manuj |
