Thanks!
Buy the silver one and take it to the local powder coating shop. They will shoot it for about $10 with their next matte black order.

I like it!!! I can't do without the hugger though in New England. Too many weather issues...

Re: New Chain guard on my 04

FZ6nNH, in your opinion, what would be the consequences of taking off the hugger when I don't ride in inclement weather? I haven't looked, but do you think there's anything that could be damaged by not having it on there or is it's purpose solely to keep water and rocks from flying up under the tail?

It is mostly there to keep the undertail clean. Without it, the whole section including the rear shock is subject to dirt, road oils, mud, grime, tar, water, etc... It is functional but not necessary. It just save a lot of cleaning. Many bikes do not come with the huggers standard. Many (non-fz6) owners have asked where I bought it because they wanted one. When I ask why, they almost always start with "too much work to clean under there."

Where you don't ride in inclimate weather, you can likely get away without it and not have too much trouble keeping it clean.

You could also go the cut/shaved route too.

Mind if I threadjack for a question? I really like the looks of the bike without the rear hugger. Have you noticed any downside to not having it there? FYI, I don't ride in the rain, so not having it there for that purpose isn't a problem. Any problems you've run into?

Thanks!
CCHOUSKEY...sorry for my lack of response...Uncle Sam had me out of the loop for a bit. I have not had any problems without the hugger on. The bike came without the hugger and bought one from my dealer...put it on and just didn't like how it looked. I'm mostly a fair weather rider, but I have been out in the rain without the hugger. No issues at all. When I clean the bike I just wipe and clean under there. I think it makes the bikes lines look cleaner and "sportier". I really like the chain guard...it's great quality for a pretty low price.

Re: New Chain guard on my 04

That looks much better than the stock chain guard.

IMHO it would look even better without the giant Yamaha decal on the swingarm.

Hey, where did you get that Yamaha sticker. I like the way that looks. People are constantly asking me what kind of bike I have, so If I had that sticker it would save me a short convo, while I await the green light to go zuuummmm.....
