steering damper

soo.. wondering if this is a worth while mod. I dont do track days, but i like twisties and will be doing some long range touring.. didnt know if this would be something i would like to add onto the bike. I do experiance a little steering wobble during heavy braking, but didnt know if this really would help or if i should be looking at replacing the bearings (spelling).. input please

Re: steering damper

it doesn't seem like a worthwile bang for your buck mod unless you have $$$$$$ pouring out of your shower or you are really racing your bike on the track.

Re: steering damper

I know this, if you go hard on your bike it would be a worthwhile addition...is hard to find one that will work, and it will limit your steering lock quite appreciably...i know this, cause my track bike has an Ohlins steering damper on it...and it has the turning circle of the titanic at a stop!!!!

Here's a couple of piccies of the Ohlins steering damper that will work on an FZ6...And by the way, after being told by many people that you could only fit a steering damper to an FZ6 if you had clip-on handlebars, i now know this is not true...you can do it with standard bars.

Am thinking of putting one on my street FZ6 myself....but they are not cheap...

Re: steering damper

If it kills your turning radius, would it be a worthwhile addition to a street bike? Wolfie?

Re: steering damper

Yes, well, we are going to experiment with it at some stage in the near future...we think that we may be able to modify the mount, so that you can get more lock...but you know, how much time do you spend turning the bike around at a stop...it would just mean it would take a couple more pushes back and forward to get your way around...

I dont see it as that much of an inconvenience myself...like anything, you would get used to it i reckon.

On the Ohlins unit, there is an adjuster knob on one end, so you can dial it in for as much, or as little as you want.
