Re: Ohlins Steering damper fitted...

Missed this post yesterday. Ya finally got it on Damien. Good to see, and great that it does it's job spectacularly.

And, being such a simple design, only a couple of minutes and it's back onto Pinky for a track run.

Re: Ohlins Steering damper fitted...

I've only had my FZ for 5 days/600mi, but already I've had a few moments that made me question the necessity of a steering damper when the front end starts to wiggle. I still have suspension work to do, but I'd imagine that will only exacerbate the issue.

I'm following along so please continue the thoroughly written riding impressions.

Is it possible it is just passing vibrations from the frame/donk straight to the bars? This would make a bit of sense as it is now sort of directly connected.

Thanks for 'taking one for the team' mate, although I was never in any doubt about the want of one on my beast. I've got some 'on it' video and you can see the middle of the bars wiggle like a fish on a rock...lol...At the end of the bars the movement is very much exaggerated.

Going to be worse now with -2 front sprocket...lol.

Cheers
Mike

Am thinking of popping on the Clip-ons from Pinky for a ride or two...including the "stop" that is fitted to pinky's forks to stop them bashing into the tank!!! Dont reckon i would leave them on all the time....but it could be good in the twisties....MwaaaahAhAhAAAAAAAA

So I think I get the basic idea, but just so I dont look like too much of an idiot when I talk about them....someone want to explain exactly what a steering damper does?

Re: Ohlins Steering damper fitted...

My bike shakes it head when I get going, especially when I'm ham-fisted with the gear change. It is less prone to do it after I uped the pre-load on the back.

Make sure you wear protective gear when you do things like that.
