Off the R6 Features page on Yamaha-motor.com. Seems like they seem to move the technology from the 1000's to the 600's every couple of years or so.

Someone school me........
From what I've read, the screamer is even firing and big bang is 2 firing within like 60 degrees of each other. It produces a lul in the power output which increases traction to prolong tire life. Like the difference between a 2-stroke in the dirt and a 4-stroke in the dirt.

Re: Fz6 Vs R6 Injection Order

So using that terminology, are there any V-4s that scream, or do they all bang?

Re: Fz6 Vs R6 Injection Order

I believe that the "big bang" fours run a 90 degree crank vs the 180 degree found on most bikes. The big bang fours actually do not fire two cylinders at a time but rather two in quick succession to "break up" the power delivery.

This odd fire technique can cause major problems in inline engines, mainly vibration, which is hard on both engine internals and things bolted to the frame/engine. More vibration can get to the rider and cause fatigue, but the enhanced traction is the winning payoff.

Ducati, Honda, Suzuki all used the v4 engine to break up the power delivery.

Re: Fz6 Vs R6 Injection Order

yes. at first i had no idea what you were saying. but a quick read shows the big bang makes it act more like a v twin in that there is a gap in the power deliever and a screamer and no gap in power being forced upon the crank.

a complete reengineering of the engine needs to be done to achieve either of these as the crank and cam profiles are nothing like a conventional engine.

Re: Fz6 Vs R6 Injection Order

Wow, I'm confused, I've never heard of a screamer vs. big bang I4. I figured they were all the same, more or less.

Okay - here's a link, haven't read it yet. Big Bang, Screamer… What are they talking about? | Total Racing Solutions

Yep, tech just keeps getting cheaper. Plus they've already invested in the R&D to make it work. Since the Liter Class bikes are the primary race machine... they get everything first with a lot of their tech trickling down from the race teams.

Plus, they need to give you a reason to buy a new one. Luckily for me, they can only squeeze so much more out of these engines with each refinement and the refinements are for the most part receiving razor thin returns on investment. This is partially why the 2 stroke dirt bikes Yamaha has been making still uses the same basic motor they had in 2001.
