Cheap Helmet Cam Setup??

Idk if this is really that safe but it seems like it would work if you have a thin camera...

Re: Cheap Helmet Cam Setup??

wow...another darwin contestant right here!!!

That is the stupidist thing I've seen in a long time. Its bad enough that riding a motorbike is hard and dangerous but now you want to put a camera in front of your face, and restrict your field of view, run the risk that the camera comes loose and moves about inside your helmet and not to mention the backlight on the LCD screen if you are stupid enough not to turn it off.

Seriously mental idea. Save yourself the pain and heartache and buy a proper cam that will give you alot better results.

If you want a cheap helmet cam setup get a Oregon Scientific ATC2K from ebay. They attach just about anywhere (including your helmet). They are self contained and waterproof. For $100 you can't go wrong.

ATC2K on eBay

There are a ton of sample vid's on YouTube - here is one chasing a FZ6 on the track...

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Or

Better! You can go a better route, buy or use any digital camera that takes video (99% of all modern Digital Cameras do Video of some degree...) and mount it on your tank. You can use a custom tank mount (a guy on ebay makes them for dirt cheap FZ6 Tank Mount

So if you already have a Digital Camera that does Video, or if you want to use an older miniDV or VHS-C video camera, you can use one of those...

I have a similar setup. I have a Tank Mount, but it isn't a dedicated one, it is the same thing that cop cars have to mount their camera on the windshield.

Here is what I have Suction Camera Mount and it works FLAWLESSLY. I used it for over 20hrs of video during my ride up to Monterey for the MotoGP races this year... Here is a short video of Mullholland Drive in Malibu, CA...

Any questions, feel free to ask... I have done a ton of homework on this stuff.

I bought this camera, attached it to my ski helmet the end of last season, never got a chance to try it out skiing. My unit is incredibly difficult to turn on, need to use my thumbnail with a lot of force in JUST the right spot.

I've been using a Sanyo Xacti camera on a tank mount for motorcycling all this year; when it's finally to snowy to ride I'll park my butt here in front of the computer and edit the footage down, and post it.

These are great looking cams, ive used many different minicams myself and have to say from the Tony Hawk Helmet Cam Digital Blue Tony Hawk HelmetCam
to the Aiptek Mini DV AIPTEK USA and others alike, you get what you pay for, speaking from experience do it right the first time and you'll be much happier in the end. Ive got my Aiptek Mini DV mounted off the side of my bike now and am very pleased with it.

Re: Cheap Helmet Cam Setup??

TO BE CLEAR I didn't say I was using it.. lol... thought I would show you guys someone's attempt a cheap webcam but I would rather pay more money for a nice cam the get into a life/death situation with this thing being the problem.

As for the ebay link I was looking at those and I'm wondering If anyone on here uses it? If you do what kind of reviews would you give it?

Re: Cheap Helmet Cam Setup??

Well, you know, on one hand it's kinda creative. On the other, it's kinda stupid. Surely, someone with that kind of creativity could have come up with something better than that. There are just too many "what ifs?" with that setup.

No... but you got me curious. OK, I'll be the guinea pig. I saw this thing at Walmart or Fry's. Let me get one and post the results. Don't think it'll fall off though. I'll just add velcro strap to it also. Stay tuned.
