Fork oil swap out.

Changed my fork oil today. 24555 miles on the orginal oil. I used Belray 15w.
Night and day difference. It just slowly wears out and its hard to notice. Now the bike feels new on the front again.
Dont know about how good belray is for lasting. It was all the shop had in 15w.
I would of liked to got the honda/showa oil but all they had was 10w.

Re: Fork oil swap out.

So how did you do it? There's more than one way to do it, yes?

I wouldn't mind doing this just to put a heavier oil.

Re: Fork oil swap out.

put bike on centerstand.
break fork caps loose.
remove and tie up brakes and fender.
Remove fairing or in my case my headlights.
jack bike up so the front is off the ground.
remove front wheel.
loosen and remove forks.
Remove cap
remove spacer, washer and spring.
Empty dirty fork oil into bucket. pump a few times.
Spray in half a can of brake clean and pump more.
Empty and pump a few times.
let drain and repeat for the otherside.

I took a spray nozzle off a Orange Clean bottle and cut the tube to the hieght the fork oil was.
Pour a little oil in and pump to get the air out. Fill and repeat for the other one.
I put 500 ml of fork oil in each fork
I sprayed the extra out so they would both be even
Replace spring, washer and spacer. put the cap on finger tight.
Reinstall forks.
The rest is just assembley.
Make sure you pump the brakes back out to contact the rotors. And clean the rotors cause of dirty finger prints.
Easy job.

Re: Fork oil swap out.

Yup, definatly a winter project this year. Heavier spring maybe, and some new head bearings as well. That and a set of PR2's.
