No, I used to ride motocross though, but before i started that i rode trails a lot and desert. Aside from my racing career i did a few dual sport races and rides, some i did on a ktm525mxc, and some on a honda 250x. I also went on a few baja trips where i took one of my 450s and a 650 and liked the 450 sooo much more...I say you should look into the 450x, because it is more powerful than the 650, and much lighter, as well as having better handling and being slimmer and more agile. Especially if you are doing trail riding, i would suggest the 450x. The only place the 650 would be better is if you are racing full blown wide open desert, and even then i have a friend riding best in the desert on a 450x in the open pro class, in second place, and he's a privateer. So the 450x is definitely a capable machine and would get my vote for sure, having ridden as many bikes as you could possibly think of. Oh yea-and you can make the 450x street legal easily.

lol, no can't afford 3 bikes, The DRZ is mine but Im selling it to pay off the FZ. The KLR is my dad's but now he wants to get a FZ like mine cause he fell in love with it, so in the end it's going to be 2 bikes which only 1 is mine. Hey I still got a bunch of student loans to pay off too so it's not that much luck...

+1 on the student loans. Damn them...

If it weren't for student loan payments, I'd have an FJR keeping my FZ6 company! Then again, it's probably for the best. Walking out every morning and trying to figure out which one to ride would just give me a headache.

The KLR is an incredible bike. This site will renew your desire to get one.. Adventure Rider Motorcycle Forum

It's a bit heavy for throwing around on the technical stuff but it will be "comfortable" and incredibly capable getting you out there. A friend of mine who is pushing 60 rode from Richmond, VA to Montana to do the Continental Divide the past two years in a row. He didn't finish either year due to a wreck the first year that broke his collar bone ( I believe the aftermath of that injury kept him from completing the second year...not positive.)

I have an 07 XT225...It's fun as hell, but not good at going the distance. I wouldn't recommend it (or the new 250) for proper adventure touring.

Find a way to get the KLR and keep the Fazer. Then you can help me design a trailer for towing the dualie behind the FZ

We do mostly city driving and hopping curbs can only be done so many times before it gets old. Highway driving the duals don't do too well as they are low revving engines and feel pushed on highway speeds. Just a though from someone who owns both...
I could never give up my dirt toys as that would be like cutting off an arm or something. No doubt running down the road at 70 pushes the 250 but the DRZ should be ok. The fact that you can hit the dirt at a moments notice gets a rise out of me and I could never give up the fun of dodging trees and the likes.

The FZ6 offroad capabilities are higher than average according to Bikez.com....
