Fairly new female FZ6 rider

Hi everyone,
I purchased my 07 FZ6 about a month ago from the dealer I work for. I'm a powersports salesperson, and they highly suggested I trade in my little 250 Ninja for a Yamaha, to ride what I sell. A FZ6 was my first and only choice for me, and the price I got was incredible. It was a little sad to part with my Ninja, but one quick ride on my sexy FZ was all it took to forget the KAW.
Since I am new to this forum (used to the set up of the Ninja site), I'm having a bit of a problem searching for FAQ's, and how to get an answer to my issue.
The only problem with my FZ is that my right leg gets incredibly hot and burnt, while riding. I'm 5'8", long legs, and my right knee hits a spot that gets really uncomfortably hot. After a 100 mile ride yesterday, my leg was bright red and sore.
Anybody else have this problem, and what to do?? Do they make a shield of some sort?

Thank you, Monica

Welcome Monica,

Are you wearing any riding pants? Since the summer is approaching, I'm wearing mesh riding pants with shorts underneath. I can definatley feel the heat from the bike, but not to a point that it's burning me. But if I was wearing shorts, which I woiuld never do, I'm sure it could possibly get uncomfortable. I'm about 5'9 in height. So don't leave us hanging? How much did you get your bike for Out the Door.

My right leg gets a little warmer than my left but it's not what I would call unbearable and certainly doesn't leave a mark. Have you tried sliding to the back of the seat? Might give you some relief backing away from the tank a little but still allow you to grip the tank if needed.

Re: Fairly new female FZ6 rider

welcome from the other side of the river !!

i would imagine you were wearing shorts..i didnt do that with the FZ but it gets warm a lot compared to the smaller engine of the ninja...in fact if the wind is blowing strong from one side of the bike, the leg on the opposite side gets a pretty good cooking even you are riding on a regular speed...That happened to me couple of times but it never reached to a point that my leg would burn...but than again i had my jeans on...

if there is a certain spot that you think that burns your leg,let us know maybe there is something that can be done about it...

all the answers about the FZ is here on this great forum!

ps..26th of july at milan dragway, the streetwarriorz event...you might wanna attend, its fun...

Welcome to the site!

I'm with Vegas...my bet is that you're not wearing leather pants, get some and the "problem" will go away. The FZ6 is definitely not considered an overly warm bike to ride.

And by the way....

Re: Fairly new female FZ6 rider

Welcome Monica! Congrats on moving to the FZ6!

As Vegas said, are you wearing riding pants? I wear them all the time (mesh) and while I've felt some heat coming back from the pipes and radiator, I wouldn't call it uncomfortable.

Working for a dealer, can you talk them into some discounted group buys for accessories to post here? Lots of people are interested in the comfort seat, lower cowl, full fairing, etc... might be some opportunity for the boss to move some parts!

NP if he can't and we accept you regardless! Welcome to the family!

And for Danny, "What's your measurements?"

Hi Monica, Welcome to the coolest web site in the entire world, seriously.

+1 on pants, I haven't had an issue in the Texas summer with Textile pants or my leathers.

For the search use the key word of what you are looking for. You may need to dig a bit but chances are it is there, and of course don't be afraid to ask. Just don't ask about oil! CanadianFZ and DefyInertia will have a small domestic animal.
