Grip Lock Motorcycle Throttle and Brake Lock

Highly visible, easy to use device that locks the throttle and front brake to help prevent motorcycle theft.

Re: Grip Lock Motorcycle Throttle and Brake Lock

The problem with bikes being secure isn't about them being rolled. The thieves just pick them up and this includes the Harleys. If that alarm doesn't make huge amounts of noise it's kind of pointless as any witness to the crime may only think it's just a couple of guys with a bike that is broke. The other issue I have with this device is the fact it puts constant pressure on the seals within the master cylinder and caliper assemblies. Granted, they were designed for pressure but not constant pressure over hour long periods,

They did say it wouldn't deter the pro thief but it does add a "layer" of security to your arsenal. Could you put it on the clutch instead without fear of the pressure on the seals? (I am not very familiar with motorcycle clutches) It seems it would wear out the springs though.

i agree, not a whole lot will deter pro theft but it will possibly give them a reason to look for an easier target. and it also will deter the amateur thief who wants to grab and go.

Also, why would you want it on your clutch? all that will do it make the bike in "neutral" and east to roll, although it will not cause any damage by engaging your clutch for long periods.

just so it isn't on the brake. my bike is in neutral when parked anyway. remember that florida's highest point is a pile of trash! so no hills here.

My advice is to make it look as though yours is harder to steal then the one parked next to it...and make sure you are insured.

Insurance is definitely the way to go. Then if they steal my sweet baby, I get a new one!

My gap insurance covers theft. Does any one else know about this? I thought it would be good so i didn't have to make a claim and premium go up.

This may or may not be correct as it will depend on how the policy is written. If it is the standard policy you will be given what that company considers fair market value which is not likely to buy a "new one." Gap insurance will allow things to get much closer but again, it is there to cover the loan difference. I don't commute with mine so it is never out of my sight. Then again, I'm not in southern California anymore so I don't really worry about it.
